final statement of intent

Narrative

The artist Jeff Buckley and the song is called Lover, you should've come over and its about realising you needed something or someone you never knew they had in this case friends. My music video will be about a girl suffering alone with personal issues and leaning toward substance use and trying to find a way to cover her pain to eventually learning to rely on her friends for help and after she does, her life gets better and it starts to brighten up. Mental health issues are in every community so it teaches them to ask for help instead of keeping it locked away. Propp character theory is enforced as Maryam Khan a Pakistani heritage young girl who represents all female Asian/Muslim teens struggling with the villain mental health issues, her donors is the bad influenced girl who attempts to sell her substances and implies that it will make her forget all about it, her friends who extract her from the situation are the helpers. I'm going film in a school, a sketchy pathway and a park.

Media Language

I will use medium close-ups and zoom-outs. I will also use the mise-en-scene body language ways you can interpret that the actor is suffering inside without telling the audience straight away. The editing style I'll use is fade-outs and fade-ins. This will keep the audience interest and give the effect that its a real music video.  For the non diegetic sound I will use the music Lover, you should've come over by Jeff Buckley. For the diegetic sound I will use the friends talking on a table enjoying themselves in the background then. At the end it will fade out into the song title as its also the number of ChildLine. I Will also use handheld footage (camera held by hand) to add realism.

Media Representations

They are going to be students in high school of all different races so it gives representations to many races and people in high school. I will represent the community as my character are infact people that live in the community and the streets we walk past are in the community. My music video will challenge the idea of keeping issues to yourself as it can lead to bad things if you keep them bottled up without asking for help from anybody so it basically shows that
talking to friends or just people you care about does help with your problems. Rumaysa will represent the working class as an Brown teen girl, its targeted at 13-25. At the start of the music video Michelle is seen as the struggler but at the end she is more of the reforming as she's trying to seek self improvement. To some extent Rumaysa reinforces the stereotypes of a young female whose struggling with dealing with her mental health issues. When she is getting peer pressured in a sketchy are that reinforces the stereotype of bad influencing people hanging around in dark sketchy eerie places.
Media Audiences

I'm targeting the 13-18/24  region which does fall under the young adults category and I'm leaning towards people that are in school and as well as their own personal problems them also layering on the issues they have in school with academic stress and peer pressure and falling into bad habits and ask for help whether that's family or friends. I'm using Blumer and Katz uses and gratification people can relate with the character and what she's going through it can give them a feeling of personal identity and help them with what their going through.
